As I'm getting older, my sleep patterns are changing. That could be a good thing...

I dream really vividly. When I'm at the start of a new writing project, the story often comes to me in my dreams. It simmers in my subconscious and plays out like a movie while I'm snoring away. Sometimes I wake up and know I need to get the words down, and other (most) times I tell myself I'll remember it in the morning and do it then. (It's rare I remember at all.) My book Chosen, a dystopian adventure romance about scientists being kidnapped, came to me fully formed--characters, plot, beginning-middle-end, etc. When I woke, I didn't like the ending. So I went back to sleep and changed it.

If only every book worked out that way. I'd write a hell of a lot faster.

I just finished writing a romance under the Ally McGuire pen name, which means I get to start my next Brey book. There's a fabulous country song, Southern Babylon, that has been sitting with me for a long time now, just waiting to be part of a bigger story. It's time.

What shows Hell like a never-ending line to get through the gates? That was the scene that arrived at 2am, and I'm going to share it with you in a link as a thank you for being part of my writing community. Remember, it's totally raw, written in the dark, and not messed with in the least.

I hope you like seeing a bit of my process.

Travel Fears--What would you do?

Robyn Nyx and I have booked to go to GCLS in Albany in July, and then to visit Chicago for book research after. We've got friends joining us on both trips.

But the USA isn't exactly a great tourist destination at the moment, is it?

My legal surname is Latin. That alone is giving us pause. Now, I look like a middle-aged white woman. I'm femme, so I pass. But will that matter when it comes to my last name? What if they see me with my wife and decide to make an example of us? What if the worst happens and I...disappear?

We don't want to let fear win. We don't want to miss the conference. We don't want to let down the people we're traveling with. But...is it worth it?

We'd love to know what you think. Hit reply and let us know.

Award news

I'm extremely pleased to say that Heart of the Storm has been shortlisted for the Golden Crown Literary Awards. It's always a great feeling, and I really love this book. It's so nice to see other people do too!

Sapphic books available on KU

There's a great campaign going right now to show off all the great sapphic books available on Kindle Unlimited. I hope you'll go check them out!

Thanks for sticking with me. I'm looking forward to a full year of stories, travels, coaching, and adventures.
Also, I'd love to hear from you. So much of writing is solitary, and hearing from readers reminds me that I'm not alone at my keyboard.

One day only November 28th. Pick a door Come play and win cool stuff! I didn't have an advent calendar as a kid. I'm not sure they're a thing in the States, or if it was just my family who didn't do it. Did yours? Robyn LOVES an advent calendar. Last year I got her the Inkvent calendar, with a different little bottle of ink each day. I won't need to get her that one for another five years, probably. It's so much fun to watch her rush downstairs to see what's behind the new door. And we wanted...
