Mental Meandering and Random Writing Reality from a Sapphic Spec-fic Writer Who Overshares.
Spec-fic: fantasy, dystopian, sci-fi, paranormal, steampunk...and anything else where you get to play in other worlds with other creatures.
A little recap (with photographic proof). My creativity finally comes back from vacation. Audible excitement, again. A new short story. Thanks for being you.
I have to admit, it's two days before Christmas and I'm about as useful as a cloth made of melted marshmallow. I'm ready to say, "No. I don't want to do anything thanks."
But in preparation for this post, I flipped through my pics from the last twelve months, and I realize just how much we've done. The fact that I haven't devolved into porcupine who stepped on a nail is actually pretty impressive.
But I don't have a whole lot of words left.
As I've mentioned, I haven't had a whole lot of words available for some time now. My creativity packed up and left for warmer climes without so much as a note, which was not only rude but incredibly selfish of it. While it has finally wended its way back after having had adventures without me, we have yet to fully reconnect given the time of year. But then, there's been a lot of "given ___" type sentences since it fucked off to play with someone else. We'll have a stern talk after Boxing Day, when we'll sit down together in the Scriptorium to continue the story of Riley and Marina in Echoes of the Heart.
And there's a Brey book simmering next. At least my creativity came back refreshed from wherever it was tanning itself with a margarita.
I've been running the Festive Fiction Advent Calendar over on Insta and TikTok. Interestingly, while my views have always been far stronger on TikTok, I got way more interaction with Insta. (I couldn't even give books away on TikTok. Which just goes to show...something.) The comments and chat on the Insta posts have been a lot of fun, and I've really loved being able to give away all kinds of books to people.
Honestly, and this is really important: we write stories for people to read them.
I know. I know. It's a radical thing to say. To suggest that we don't write just for fun, for the sake of it, just because we can, is paramount to saying Tofurkey is just as good as the real thing at Christmas. But it's true, nonetheless. (Not the tofurkey thing. That's revolting.) We write to share stories. As writers in a niche market, we write for a community we like being part of. We want to help other people see themselves on the page in a way that doesn't include asylums or death or returning to the person you didn't want in the first place.
Readers are why I write. And I'm grateful for every damn one of you.
Thanks. Thanks for continuing to support me/us even when the books are coming out a little slower than we'd like them to. Thanks for connecting. Thanks for chatting. We're bringing you more in 2026, and we look forward to plenty more of the same.
Here's a little glimpse into our year:
Audible news
Where the Heart Leads Audiobook
Where the Heart Leads is now officially available. I haven't had a chance to listen to the whole thing yet, but you can hear a sample over on Audible. I think it's really exciting, and the feeling of having reached a goalpost hasn't receded yet. If you've listened, or you will, I hope you'll leave a review and let me know what you thought.
Also, have you signed up for the Wifey Romance Newsletter?
Yup. We actually write stories together under our romance pen names. If you're into sapphic romance, you should check out what we're doing over there. We write them as we travel, finding inspiration in our surroundings.
We just released our newest one in time for the holiday. Come have some sweet fun with us.
As I mentioned, we've been doing the advent calendar, and there are only two days left to win some final awesome books.
Thanks for sticking with me. I'm looking forward to a full year of stories, travels, coaching, and adventures. Also, I'd love to hear from you. So much of writing is solitary, and hearing from readers reminds me that I'm not alone at my keyboard.
One day only November 28th. Pick a door Come play and win cool stuff! I didn't have an advent calendar as a kid. I'm not sure they're a thing in the States, or if it was just my family who didn't do it. Did yours? Robyn LOVES an advent calendar. Last year I got her the Inkvent calendar, with a different little bottle of ink each day. I won't need to get her that one for another five years, probably. It's so much fun to watch her rush downstairs to see what's behind the new door. And we wanted...
