I adore the research part of writing a book.

Even when I wrote Ship of Dreams, which was a LOT of research, I enjoyed it. Researching dragon lore is a whole new realm of research and I'm loving it.

How do dragons mate? Lots of different ways, apparently. Including changing into human form to get the deed done, and then shifting back. I like that one least, for this story anyway.

And the clothing? How badly do I want to order all kind of cosplay outfits? Cloaks would flap in the wind, even if they look cool. Dresses? No way. Wind right up the foof, and no one needs that frozen. Leather worn soft over time, some well molded armour, and a flying hat that won't get blown off in the wind. I'm hoping to find someone to do some character art for me.

Classic dragon? Wyvern? Drake? Wyrm? How many do I need of the twelve generally cited to be out there? Hell, why not use them all in different regions of the planet?

We're making book dragons for the Queer the Shelves Infinite Kickstarter rewards, and I'm a little in love with all of them. Granted, writing has slowed down right now because of the QTSI launch, but I'm still wrapped up in the fun of the research and in thinking about what readers might want to go along with the book. If you have any thoughts on that, I'd love to hear them.

Oh...and did I mention I won an award?

Yes, I mentioned this last month. But I'm going to mention it again because I have the award in hand, and I have to show you it because it's so very pretty. Have you picked up your copy yet?

Queer the Shelves Infinite is happening. Are you part of it?

The kickstarter pre-view is live, and the kickstarter itself launches on the 29th. We've got some FABULOUS awards for people to jump in to help us fund it. How about a wake up call from a very popular audiobook narrator? Or a book bundle loaded with books from all kinds of authors? How about a book dragon and a fantastic t-shirt, along with your name on the founders wall? How about a special edition of a book signed by yours truly?

If you're a reader (and I assume you are because you've signed up for my newsletter) head on over to the Kickstarter pre-launch page and sign up so you get notified when it goes live.

Items WILL sell out at the different levels, so be sure to nab the one you want before it's gone!

WE NEED YOU. This is a community effort and with your help it's going to be awesome. Please tell everyone you know!

Where can you hang out with us?

Newquay is beautiful. But maybe less so when a storm blows in and they have to cancel pride...the day before, when we've already made the seven hour journey down. Ah well-we made the most of it and went to the Screech Owl Sanctuary, where we got to see an incredible array of owls, and we even got to pet some gorgeous little foxes!

Derby Pride dawned bright and beautiful and the rain only really came in toward the end of the day, thankfully. E.V. Bancroft, Robyn Nyx and myself spent the day chatting with readers, talking to some writers, and generally having a fabulous day. We're so lucky to get to do what we do!

We'll be at the Rainbow Bookfest in York on the 10th of October, and that's our last event for the year, so come hang out with us!

Other sapphic author news

We're part of SANG, a group of authors supporting each other, and we're pulling together a very cool anthology at the end of the month! Helena and I are co-writing a brand new wifey romance story, so keep an eye out for that at the end of the year!

Thanks for sticking with me. I'm looking forward to a full year of stories, travels, coaching, and adventures.
Also, I'd love to hear from you. So much of writing is solitary, and hearing from readers reminds me that I'm not alone at my keyboard.
